PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING PERMANENT ACCOUNT NUMBER (PAN) |
| |
For
obtaining PAN from 1st July, 2003:
· Apply at Income Tax PAN Service Centers and not
to the Assessing Officers
· Obtain location of Income Tax PAN Centres and
not to the Assessing Officers
· Application for PAN will be made in new Form
49A that will cost Rs.5/-. Old 49A Form issued by the
Income-tax Department upto 30/06/2003 will not be accepted
· Submit documents to establish “identity” and
“address” of the applicant
· “Individual” applicants must submit one recent
colored photograph (3.5cm X 2.5cm)
· Indicate designation and code of your Assessing
Officer
· Affix a coupon of Rs.60/- obtained from IT PAN
Service Center on your application. |

· PAN Card will be delivered to you within specified
time
· Web-based query system on status of the application
Assessees
can verify their PAN numbers at www.incometaxindia.gov.in

· Quoting of correct PAN on return of income is
compulsory
· Existing PAN will remain valid:
· To allow time to obtain PAN, returns due on 31.07.03
may be filed by 30.09.03
· IT PAN Service Center will assist in filling
application for PAN |
